Welcome to the Penguin's Ponderings

Mostly the meandering thoughts of a plain vanilla recently retired gal that likes to read, travel, and is establishing life now with new rules and a new environment with a trusty spouse that is a best friend as well.

Part Uno, Relationships

Relationships - One of my favorite songs is a weird one called "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" sung by Quindon Tarver. It's from the 1996 Baz Luhrmann (the dude who did Moulin Rouge as well) production of Romeo and Juliet with Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.
Luhrmann refers to siblings, family and old friends,
"Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young. "
That line, among others (...be kind to your knees, you will miss them when they're gone."..) starts to really make sense. There is much ease and peace in those friends and family that are comfortable like my favorite soft TShirt or sweatshirt. I just don't have to work so hard and wonder where I stand, or sit or.....
Of course there are those family and friends that require hard hatted, teethgritting head banging to get through a short family meal.... those are the ones that make us earn the relationship stripes...
We are built for relationships and to be content humans, we have to learn how to live in relationships - flexibility, tolerance, peace, love and knowing that we are not the ones in control. Mmmmm - deep stuff
.... to be continued....
