Welcome to the Penguin's Ponderings

Mostly the meandering thoughts of a plain vanilla recently retired gal that likes to read, travel, and is establishing life now with new rules and a new environment with a trusty spouse that is a best friend as well.

Pondering memories

Getting ready to make a major move in about 2 months and lately events trigger memories that make the time here a real kick.
Scrapbooking will always bring memories of Karen, Rebecca, and Cynthia. Pedicures began with a dear friend Karen.
Fancy toenails remind me of KJ's admonition to always keep your toes neat, trimmed, and freshly polished when wearing sandals or going barefoot.
Local coffee shops remind me of the bumper sticker "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks."
Kabuki will always remind me of Cristi - and many happy meals with my spouse & best friend - nice that is that same person.
What a cool thing happened when the Lord created memories. I choose to focus on the pleasant ones - tea at Linda's, margaritas with Karen, "errands" at Ruby's, bird talk with Gwen...... bring a smile to my face and often make me laugh out loud.
sad memories - important as well, some of each with my parents - mostly great, but tinged with sadness as I watched their health fail... and knowing that it will be my turn one day - whew - reality check. One of the greatest gifts my parents gave me was the guilt free (well - any guilt I had was self-imposed) - get out of guilt free card - of telling me it was NOT my responsibility to take care of them in their old age.
