And in the tradition of USA's July 4th celebrations, our “kids” came over last night for (what else??) hot dogs - well the vegetarian shared the portobellos... Discussing local fireworks, our son-in-law said that the LAW was pretty much ignored as far as a fireworks ban here – so after they left, we went fireworks cruising. The official show at the lake was too crowded, but there was an abundance of "bootleg" fireworks in the skies all around - so much for fireworks being illegal in the city limits! Apparently you can buy, legally, almost every kind of fireworks (short of dynamite) in Missouri - funny - it was that way when I was a kid and we would come to Kansas around July 4th. There was a spectacular show just west of us at the end of the lane - I suspect it was JUST outside the city limits, either that or half the police were helping - hmm.
Wow – what a laid back life we are enjoying –even with the mess of the move. Another Saturday morning at the farmer’s market. What a kick – low key, and definitely a part of the town tradition. Dogs, kids, foods, and other curiosities – so very enjoyable… second week in a row we have started our Saturday with a trip downtown for people watching, produce scouting, as well as coffee and breakfast outside.
And I hear more fireworks outside as I write this - memories of unrestrained fireworks of childhood, chasing through the fields with cousins and friends.

Mostly the meandering thoughts of a plain vanilla recently retired gal that likes to read, travel, and is establishing life now with new rules and a new environment with a trusty spouse that is a best friend as well.

Sure sounds like a great 4th. Ours was celebrated a little differently, of course. I'm still grateful to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave though! dp
