On March 6th, ground was finally broken for our new house. The lot was purchased by our contractor on October 30, 2008 at a Sheriff's auction. We really like the location. It is on a cul de sac and in the part of town that we really like best.
At that time the worse case scenario should have been 90 days to ground breaking - late January. Due to additional litigation, there was still no decision by February 15, 2009. But then all things finally came together and the judge signed the paperwork on March 5, 2009. Our builder had the bulldozer on the lot the next day! He is ready to build, too.
Of course now that things are settled, the 4 months we waited for the lot seems like nothing. We also learned from a friends that is a retired bank officer that Sheriff's auctions often are tied up with paperwork for 6 months or more - that put our 4 months in perspective as well.
Ahhh anticipation - glad that part is over and sliding into a distant memory. It's kinda like labor pains, I guess - it is a good thing that the memory dulls very quickly and we can enjoy the product. Now I can obsess about tile and paint and carpet and counters and windows and appliances and all those other little items that make up a house.
We are both excited about having a new home and getting settled in a more permanent location, really unpacking everything and nesting. It is a small ranch single level home, 3 bedroom and about 1900 square feet. It is big enough for company and small enough for a retired couple downsizing and having a house we can, hopefully, manage for many years. But whatever the future holds, this is fun to plan together.
Welcome to the Penguin's Ponderings
Mostly the meandering thoughts of a plain vanilla recently retired gal that likes to read, travel, and is establishing life now with new rules and a new environment with a trusty spouse that is a best friend as well.
