Welcome to the Penguin's Ponderings

Mostly the meandering thoughts of a plain vanilla recently retired gal that likes to read, travel, and is establishing life now with new rules and a new environment with a trusty spouse that is a best friend as well.

Taos continued

And so we return home to NE Kansas from our time in New Mexico.
Taos holds magic memories as the last entry indicates. After Mike and I married, we used Taos as a get away, a meeting place with my parents, visiting art galleries, watching Indian dancing, shopping, and driving through the mountains and the gorge.

One weekend we were trying to make it to Albuquerque and decided to stop overnight in Taos. The ONLY room we could find was at the Jack Denver Hotel. After looking at a hovel behind storage that was nasty and smaller than some of our bathrooms, we drove on to Albuquerque and surprised my Mom and Dad about 1:00 am.

Doug West's serigraph artwork of Rio Grande gorge bridge was a treat to ourselves a few years ago. The gentle, subtle colors over the hills and the gorge represent the peace and the character of Taos. Memories mixed with hilarious adventures eating huevos rancheros at the Sagebrush, drinks and people watching at the Taos Inn, Moby Dickens bookshop, walking with my sombrero-wearing uncle through the square, discovering our dear friend Mary Ann in Taos, sopapilla eating contests with our son and Mike's cousin, breakfast at Michael's Kitchen and many other snapshot moments of Taos.
